City of Bones Possibly the Best Book to Movie Adaptation Ever!!

 photo the-mortal-instruments-city-of-bones-jamie-campbell-bower.jpg

FINALLY!!! A movie based on a book and it actually resemblesthe book! It can be done...someone should tell the screenwriters for Beautiful Creatures. I love this movie! Jamie Campbell Bower is Jace Wayland. My one regret is that he didn't have enough lines to suit me. Jamie was snarky and sarcastic just like Jace. He was amazing....great casting on Screen Gems part! Lilly Collins was great as Clary too. I have to admit I was terribly disappointed with Magnus' character... High Warlock of Brooklyn he was not! All in all though it was a great first movie and based on previous series of movies (Harry Potter) they only improve with each movie. I hope we get all six! Cross your fingers guys;-)

Percy Jackson and the Sea Of Monsters Rocks!!

 photo percy_jackson_sea_of_monsters_ver7.jpg

I must say, as book to movie adaptations go, Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters is one of the best right done to including George and Martha! Fans know who they are and they were great!!

My eleven year old, who is an extreme Percy Jackson fan, thought it rocked! We seen it last night at his first midnight movie! If you're a Percy Jackson fan it is a must see. However, don't expect the full story line because movies can only be so long. Cerce's Island and Percy being turned into a guinea pig part of the story isn't there, but the main points are pretty much in tact. Well done Fox 2000 and director Thor Freudenthal.

Wren 178 is the next Katniss Everdeen!!

Move over Katniss and make room for Wren 178. Amy Tintera's debut book, Reboot, which has already been optioned by Fox 2000 and Chernin Entertainment to develop into a movie, is simply mind blowing!!

Here's a brief synopsis. A virus breaks out and kills most of the population of the world. The virus that kills also "reboots" the dead back to the living (sort of). The longer it takes to reboot the better the reboot is...with speed, strength, the ability to heal rapidly, and next to no emotions. Wren is shot at the age of 12 and reboots 178 minutes after she died. She is considered to best reboot ever as far as HARC (Human Advancement and Re-population Center)is concerned. The story revolves around Wren 178 and her attempt to train Callum 22, another reboot, to be a soldier for HARC.

I spent a lot of time thinking "what if..." while I was reading this book. At the beginning of the story, Wren appears to be emotionless in all aspects of her life. Enter Callum...a 22 and almost still human. He doesn't follow or even care about the rules of interaction between the reboots based on their numbers. He is immediately drawn to Wren and she to him although she doesn't understand why because "no one looks at me, no one touches me".

The turns and twists of Reboot really kept on the edge of my seat. The story evolves from a training school to the edge to rebellion when Callum doesn't follow orders and is give an execution order, either he kills his next assignment or Wren has to kill him. Several things happen to make it possible for Wren and Callum to escape. The story takes off at break neck speed from this point to the amazing end.

How Did I Miss Divergent!

I was on vacation for the last four days with my family and had plenty of time to read. I had have Divergent on my Kindle for so long that it is embarrassing to say. I thought that with a movie coming out a should give it a try. I was COMPLETELY blown away!! Divergent is the best book I have read in quite some time. Who knew, right?! I literally could not put it down. I read it in about a day and a half.

The main factor that really hooked me was to incredible world that Veronica Roth created. It is so richly detailed that when Tris is standing at the Chasm in The Pit I could hear the water moving. I was also impressed by the level of detail given to the description of each faction. It's a world where everything (and everyone) is colored coded and categorized into neat little groups. The whole concept really made me stop and think "what if...".

As for the main characters, we have Tris (formerly Beatrice) as our heroine and Four (formerly Tobias) as our hero. Both are transfers to the Dautless faction from the Abnegation faction but two years apart. I must say that Tris did work on my nerves when she kept referring to how little she was. Was it a factor in her level of badassedness? Absolutely not...so she's a small person move on! Other than this small issue I found Tris to be one of the most intriguing, gritty, and conflicted characters I have ever had the pleasure of reading about. As for Four...well he IS Four! What else can I really say about him? He's is what pretty much every girl wants in a guy...tough, silent and brooding!

The series is set to be a trilogy with the final book, Allegiant, to be released October 22, 2013. I will be sorry to see it end because I love the world!
